The Islands of Zanzibar
Come to this tropical paradise to enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, dhow sailing and spice tours. You can stay in Stonetown, on the west coast of the Island of Unguja, and enjoy the cultural richness of this traditional Swahili hamlet, or venture out to the north or east coast, if scuba diving is what you are after. You can also journey to the south to have an animal encounter with dolphins. For a more remote destination, visit one of the beach resorts in Pemba. No matter what you choose, you are sure to have a splendid time recuperating in peaceful Zanzibar.
Mafia Island
Mafia is a wonderful island on which to enjoy the Indian Ocean. In addition to scuba diving and snorkeling, there is the unique opportunity to swim with whale sharks, on a seasonal basis. Mafia has only a few beach resorts, therefore, you will find few other tourists there and a whole lot of unspoiled nature. Just a quick flight from Dar es Salaam, Mafia is an island sure to please.
Mainland beaches
A more cost effective way of enjoying the Indian Ocean is to relax on the beaches surrounding Dar es Salaam. From White Sands, you can take a small boat out to one of the neighboring islands for a day trip. But you won't feel the need, as the beach and pool at White Sands are both beautiful and refreshing. Or you can venture down to South Beach to enjoy a more remote area, yet so close to Dar es Salaam.
